Letter From Pastor Kevin on Covid -19

Dear Members and Friends of Bethany,

It is in times of distress like this that we most need to turn to God for our security and to each other for support and encouragement. In response to the current public health crisis, our number one concern at this time is helping to protect those who are vulnerable and to work with our community to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Based on CDC recommendations and our own health experts and elders, we are suspending all services and programs meeting at our building until further notice. Instead, we will offer other ways to worship, pray and connect with each other online and over the phone. This action is out of love for our neighbor not fear. It is not “canceling church” because we are the church 24/7 and need to remain an active caring community of believers. To that end here are some ways we can stay connected:

ONLINE SUNDAY SERVICE at 10:30 AM
Timothy and I will lead an online time of worship, reflection on God’s Word, and prayer for our church family. This will be a time to also share updates and pray as a church community. To join us, use the link and instructions below.

COMMUNITY PRAYER on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00-9:30 PM, and Wednesdays and Fridays 12:00-12:30 Noon

This prayer time is open to anyone using the same connection below. We will be joining together to pray for needs in our church family and for our neighbors near and far. Please let me know if you would like to see another time offered that is more convenient.  You can join this meeting using the same link below.

STAYING IN TOUCH THROUGH VINELIFE AND PERSONAL FOLLOWUP
Our Vinelife leaders will stay in touch with the members of each group for support and prayer. Each group will decide on whether and how they might meet. We will also be reaching out by phone and text to those who are not in a group at this time. Our Pastoral team and deacons will take the lead in this to be aware of your needs for prayer and/or other needed assistance, especially among our most vulnerable members. If you do have a need for prayer or other assistance you may also contact your Vinelife leader, Jennifer in the office, Pastor Bitrus or myself. We will be glad to serve you.

While we all going through many disruptions in our lives and physical distancing, this is also a time to draw closer to God, encourage one another, and be of assistance to those in need. Lets especially remember in prayer those who are at risk and those who continue to serve in various capacities in our communities. Look for ways God can use you to help or encourage others in these days. Despite the difficulties, God will be with us and can use this time to strengthen us in new ways. I’m not sure how the 1918-1920 flu pandemic impacted Bethany, but I do know that God sustained this church for another hundred years!  May God be with you amid all of the things you are dealing with at this time.

Peace and be well,
Pastor Kevin

Love God, Love Others, Love Yourself
Responding to COVID-19

We want to uphold the two great commandments to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, we at Bethany encourage you to love and care for your own health and take actions out to love and care for our neighbors as we would for ourselves. Here are some practical steps and recommendations we are following and will reevaluate week by week:
Sunday Service:

  • Starting this Sunday we recommend people who are elderly or have chronic conditions to consider staying home for your own protection.
  • If you or a member of your family is ill with symptoms like a fever please stay at home
  • If you know you have been exposed to someone who tested positive, stay at home and isolate yourself.
  • We will follow the guidance of the MN Department of Public Health as we make decisions about our meeting from week to week and will keep you informed.

Other Practices:

  • The offering will be taken by ushers at the door as you leave.
  • Communion will be modified to avoid passing trays
  • Avoid handshaking and unnecessary contact

Individual Everyday Actions:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Cover your cough with your arm
  • Check for more information at www.health.state.mn.us
